Harvey*, 14, was referred to Targeted Provision in 2021 after mainstream school proved unsuitable for his needs. He has multiple SEND needs, including autism, sensory processing difficulties, and emotionally-based avoidance. He receives a bespoke educational package at home focusing on English and maths to prepare him for his 2025 exams. Harvey finds social communication challenging and needs extra support to engage in tasks and conversations, especially those he doesn’t naturally enjoy.
In maths, Harvey has been making great progress. Recently, he’s worked on probability and enlarging shapes by scale factors, showing impressive accuracy and engagement. His tutor has also introduced warm-up activities, like 20-question reviews, which Harvey enjoys tackling independently before working through tougher problems together. Despite busy days, Harvey is always eager to get started. “Harvey is doing really well and is a very nice and polite young man,” says his maths tutor.
In English, Harvey’s growth has been equally impressive. His tutor has been with him for a couple of years and has seen him mature significantly. “It’s going really well! I’ve been with him now for a couple of years, and he’s matured so much. I really enjoy our lessons,” they shared. Harvey has become more confident in sharing his thoughts and adapting to changes, which has made learning more productive and enjoyable.
At Targeted Provision, bespoke lessons have helped Harvey re-engage with learning and take ownership of his education. By addressing anxiety and providing tailored mentorship, we support young people like Harvey to overcome barriers, gain qualifications, and thrive in their educational journeys. Overall, Harvey has shown remarkable progress academically and personally. His confidence, resilience, and enthusiasm is shining through, and both tutors are excited to see him continue on this positive path.
